Long Wait Is Over For Davey Sammons, 

Takes Delayed URC Sprint Car Feature

Davey Sammons proudly parked the Baby Huey Express No. 79 in victory lane this past weekend at Grandview Speedway. For Sammons, it was the first win of the year and third of his United Racing Company career.

 

When the rains came on lap 7 of the June 13th feature event, Sammons was running third. URC officials and track management made the decision to resume the race during URC’s next appearance at Grandview Speedway on July 25th. For the 20 year old Sammons, the finish was worth waiting for.

 

Sammons, of Bordentown, NJ, originally started the race in sixth position. He had worked his way up to the third spot when the race was put under rain delay, and then postponed. When the race resumed this past weekend, Sammons was in third. His car looked strong in the early laps of the race as he was able to run down race leader Kyle Purks. Sammons then used the outside groove to take over the top spot on lap eighteen.  He held on for the lead and took his first checkered of the season on lap 25.

 

 A win would not have been possible without the dedication of his team and the constant support from his sponsors. The team celebrated in victory lane and then got back to work preparing for that evening’s qualifying events. A broken rear in the heat race caused Sammons to run the B-Main. After a lot of work by his crew and friends in the pit area, Davey was able to qualify for the night’s main event. Unfortunately, he was unable to finish the race.
